ONE44 prepares people for the moment normal stops being normal.
ONE44 Defense is a professional defense and preparedness organization operating across four divisions: Krav Maga, firearms, K9, and Tac Med.
We train children from around age five, teenagers, women, parents and families, survivors, responsible armed citizens, teachers, churches, schools and businesses, security professionals, K9 handlers, medical professionals, veterans, law enforcement and military personnel.
The level and the application change with the student. The standard does not.
Core doctrine
You do not rise to the occasion.You default to your highest level of mastery.
This is not decorative. It is the reason the training is built the way it is.
Under stress you do not become faster, calmer, or more capable because the situation demands it. Attention narrows. Fine motor skill degrades. Thinking gets harder. What remains is what has been trained past the point of having to remember it.
So we train fewer things, further. What survives contact with stress is what gets taught.

Each one stands on its own — its own subject, its own progression, its own environment. What carries across all four is the standard.
Krav Maga
Practical and pressure-tested. No sport mentality, no choreography for its own sake, and no complexity that will not survive stress. The emphasis is recognizing threats early, avoiding violence where it can be avoided, acting decisively when it cannot, protecting others, and getting home.
Firearms
A firearm is a tool. The person carrying it is the system. Safe handling, marksmanship, weapon manipulation, judgment, accountability, movement where appropriate, and decision-making under pressure. We do not train people to look the part. We develop responsible capability.
K9
Detection, deterrence, handler development, and working capability — with civilian, security, law-enforcement and military applications depending on the program. Detection work is delivered to agencies. Every K9 program is scoped to the dog, the handler, and the role in front of us.
Tac Med
The threat may be over. The fight for life isn't. The gap between injury and survival is where training matters most — the critical minutes before higher-level care is available.
Alongside the four: active-threat preparedness, school and workplace preparedness, scenario-based training, and related defensive disciplines.

From five years old to the front line.
That range is deliberate. It is also the reason we do not train everyone the same way.
A five-year-old learning boundaries does not need to train like law enforcement. A mother protecting her child faces a different problem than a military professional. A survivor may need a trauma-informed environment long before anything physical begins. A teacher's responsibility during an active threat is not a responding officer's responsibility.
Good training understands the difference. The mission adapts. The standard does not.
How we operate
The training goes where it belongs.
ONE44 trains at vetted facilities, ranges, partner locations, and appropriate professional environments, selected for the course being delivered.
That is a deliberate choice, not a limitation. Firearms training belongs on a proper range. Scenario work belongs in an environment built to hold it. Organizational and private training is frequently best delivered on the client's own site, because a plan has to work inside the building people actually occupy — not inside a generic room.

A dedicated ONE44 training facility is part of the plan. It does not exist yet, and we are not going to describe it as though it does.
Leadership
The experience built the doctrine.The team carries it forward.God remains at the center.
ONE44 Defense was founded by Alicia Mills, but it was never built to be about one person.
It was built around a standard.
Our instructors come from different professional backgrounds that may include military service, law enforcement, fire and EMS, nursing and medicine, K9 operations, firearms, security, and Krav Maga. Each person brings different experience, training, and perspective to the team.
We will never exaggerate those qualifications or imply that every instructor carries every credential.
Integrity matters too much for that.
Credentials matter. Training matters. Experience matters.
But they are not enough.
A certificate can tell us what someone has completed. A résumé can tell us where someone has worked or served. Neither tells us who that person becomes when responsibility is placed in their hands.
That matters here.
Because when you place yourself—or your son, daughter, spouse, or someone you love—under our instruction, you are trusting us with more than an hour of training.
You are trusting our judgment.
We do not take that lightly.
We believe leadership is stewardship, and as a faith-centered organization, we believe we ultimately answer to God for how we carry what has been entrusted to us.
That conviction shapes who we allow to teach under the ONE44 name.
We train with our instructors. We watch them teach. We watch how they respond when a student struggles, freezes, becomes frustrated, or loses confidence.
We pay attention to how they correct someone.
How they handle authority.
How they respond when they are wrong.
Whether they possess enough confidence to lead and enough humility to remain teachable.
Because being able to fight and being able to teach are two very different skills.
Technical proficiency alone does not make someone an effective instructor. Quality instruction requires communication, adaptability, sound judgment, patience, emotional awareness, humility, and the ability to translate complex skills into actions another human being can understand, retain, and reproduce under stress.
We are not interested in instructors who need to prove they are the toughest person in the room.
We want instructors capable of making everyone else in that room harder to hurt.
There is a difference.
What we are actually looking for
Competence
We expect our instructors to know their craft.
They must be able to perform what they teach, understand why it works, recognize where it can fail, and continue developing their knowledge as tactics, circumstances, and best practices evolve.
But we do not teach choreography.
Real violence is dynamic, unpredictable, and profoundly human. Stress changes perception, decision-making, coordination, and performance.
Our responsibility is not simply to teach techniques.
It is to develop capability.
Character
Skill without character can become dangerous.
We expect discipline, honesty, restraint, accountability, and integrity from the people who represent ONE44.
Authority here is not permission to dominate others.
It is a responsibility to serve them.
Our faith shapes that standard deeply.
Christ demonstrated strength without arrogance, authority without ego, courage without cruelty, and compassion without weakness.
That matters to us.
We are not interested in performative toughness.
We believe in strength under control.
The ability to teach
Students do not exist to showcase the instructor.
The instructor exists to develop the student.
Some people learn immediately. Others need the same concept explained five different ways. Some come to us confident and ready. Others arrive carrying fear, insecurity, previous trauma, or experiences they may never choose to tell us about.
Good instruction recognizes the difference.
We believe an instructor should be able to challenge someone without degrading them, correct them without humiliating them, and build confidence without manufacturing a dangerous illusion of invincibility.
Our job is not to convince people they cannot be hurt.
Our job is to make them more difficult to victimize and more capable when circumstances become difficult.
Humility
No one at ONE44 has arrived.
Not our founder.
Not our instructors.
Not our most experienced students.
We train. We study. We question. We pressure-test. We refine.
If something we teach can be made safer, clearer, more effective, or more applicable to the people we serve, we have a responsibility to examine it.
We refuse to allow ego to become doctrine.
Humility does not weaken competence.
It protects it from becoming arrogance.
Stewardship
This is the standard beneath all the others.
Before someone teaches under the ONE44 name, there is a question that matters more to us than anything written on a résumé:
Would we trust this person with our own family?
Would we trust their judgment?
Would we trust their character?
Would we trust them to challenge our daughters when they need courage, protect their dignity when they struggle, and teach them the difference between being afraid and being helpless?
If the answer is no, the credentials do not matter.
Because ONE44 Defense is not simply here to produce better fighters.
We are here to develop capable human beings.
People who recognize danger.
People who can think while their heart is pounding.
People who understand that avoidance is wisdom, de-escalation is strength, and violence is a last resort—but when there is no other choice, they possess the ability and resolve to act.
People prepared to protect life, stand for others, and refuse to become easy victims.
For us, that responsibility reaches beyond business.
It is stewardship.
It is service.
And in many ways, it is ministry expressed through preparation.
The experiences that built ONE44 were not all experiences we would have chosen. But we believe God wastes nothing surrendered to Him.
So we will not use those experiences to build a pedestal.
We will use them to build people.
That is ONE44 Defense.

Alicia Mills
Alicia Mills has spent nearly two decades instructing across civilian, professional, and operational environments.
Her background spans Krav Maga, defensive tactics, firearms, tactical medicine, working K9 operations, protective services, active-threat preparedness, and instructor development.
She has trained civilians, families, professional fighters, security professionals, working K9 handlers, and members of the military and law-enforcement communities.
That range of experience established one of the principles ONE44 is built on:
Being capable is one discipline. Building capability in someone else is another.
Instruction is not a demonstration.
It is a responsibility.
The mission is to prepare the person in front of you for the environment they may actually have to face.

Alicia's background includes training and operational experience across law enforcement, military, security, protective services, firearms, tactical medicine, and active-threat preparedness.
Some of that work can be discussed publicly.
Some cannot.
ONE44 does not use confidential assignments, protected clients, or operational details as marketing material.
- Working K9 operations
Alicia's background includes extensive working-K9 experience and training with military, law-enforcement, security, and civilian K9 handlers.
After identifying a critical gap in conventional defensive tactics for working handlers, she developed a specialized combat system designed around the realities of physical confrontation while maintaining responsibility for a working dog.
The requirement was simple:
- Active-threat preparedness
Alicia's experience includes active-threat preparedness, organizational training, and security assessment in environments responsible for protecting others.
The objective is not heroics.
- Trauma-informed instruction
Continuing education in behavioral science and trauma informs Alicia's approach to training civilians, families, women, survivors, and youth.
Trauma-informed training does not mean lowering the standard.
It means understanding the person, recognizing the mission, and building capability without manufacturing aggression or false confidence.
The standard does not.
Discretion is part of the profession.
Protect both ends of the leash.
That methodology has been taught to K9 handlers through seminars and professional training across the United States and internationally.
Identify the threat.
Reduce vulnerability.
Prepare the response.
Protect life.
Prevention first.
Capability when prevention fails.
Strong does not mean reckless.
Prepared does not mean afraid.

ONE44 was not built to showcase an instructor's résumé.
It was built to establish a standard.

Everything learned carries an obligation to be used well, taught responsibly, and passed forward when it can protect another person.

The name
Why ONE44.
Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.
Psalm 144:1
The name comes from that verse. It was not added to the brand afterward. It is the foundation of it.
God is the Rock. Strength carries responsibility. Capability is meant to be used in service of someone other than yourself.
We do not glorify violence. We prepare because life is worth protecting.
This is ONE44.
