Questions? Concerns?

We don't bite.

The real ones — what people ask on the phone before they book, and what they are usually too polite to ask at all.

I am not in shape. Is that a problem?

No, and it is the single most common reason people delay starting. Training is scaled to the body you have today. You will work, but you will not be pushed past what is safe for you, and nothing we teach depends on being fit, fast, or strong. The techniques that require athleticism are precisely the ones that fail under stress.

Do I need any experience?

None. Most of the people we train have never done anything like this. That is easier to work with than someone arriving with habits from a competition sport that do not transfer.

Who will actually be teaching me?

Alicia Mills founded ONE44 and is its COO and Chief Instructor — the standard and much of the doctrine are hers. She is not the only person who teaches it. ONE44 works with qualified instructors whose professional backgrounds may include military, law enforcement, fire and EMS, nursing and medicine, K9, firearms, Krav Maga, and security. Not every instructor holds every one of those credentials and we will not pretend otherwise — instructors are selected on relevant experience, demonstrated competence, character, and whether they can hold the ONE44 standard in front of students. The course determines who teaches it. Ask who is running a given session and you will get a straight answer.

What is Krav Maga, and is that all you teach?

Krav Maga is the system developed for the Israeli Defense Forces and still in use by them. It is the foundation of what we teach because it is built on simple actions that hold up under real stress, with no forms, belts, or tournaments. But it is the floor, not the ceiling. What you receive also draws on firearms work, weapons defense, medical response, and years of instructing people whose lives depended on it. We teach whatever solves your problem.

Is this a competition sport? Will I have to fight anyone?

No. There is no sparring you have not agreed to, no competition, no belt testing, and nothing to prove to anyone. This is self-defense. The objective is that you go home, not that you win.

What do I wear, and do I need equipment?

Wear what you would normally wear out — including your actual shoes. That is deliberate. You will not be attacked in a uniform and bare feet, so training in them builds a false picture of your own capability. No equipment is required. We supply anything needed.

How young can my child start?

Five. For the youngest kids it looks like games — voice, distance, noticing things, getting to a grown-up, and breaking free from a grip. It is not frightening and it does not teach a small child that the world is dangerous. It grows into the real material as they get older.

Can I stay and watch my child's session?

Always, and we would rather you did. Nothing we teach a child is anything we would not want a parent to see. Kids also retain far more when a parent is in the room — and more still when the parent is training too.

Something happened to me. Will training make it worse?

It can, if it is done carelessly, and we want to be honest with you about that rather than reassuring. Self-defense training done badly can put someone straight back into the worst moment of their life. Done well, it can be one of the places you start getting yourself back. You keep control of the room, nobody touches you without you saying so first, and you can stop at any point without explaining yourself. We can spend a whole first session just talking if that is what the day needs.

Where do sessions take place?

Your home, a park, a partner gym, or your school, church, or workplace. Krav-based training requires almost no infrastructure — no mats, no uniforms, no special equipment — which means it can come to you. We are based in Spicewood and travel throughout Lake Travis, Bee Cave, Lakeway, Dripping Springs, Marble Falls, and greater Austin.

Do you offer group classes, or only private?

Both. Private one-on-one, small groups you assemble yourself, and public seminars at partner facilities. Many people begin with a small group of friends because it is far less intimidating than walking into a room of strangers, and that is a sound reason to do it that way.

Can you train our church, school, or company?

Yes, and it is a significant part of our work. Active threat awareness and response training, physical security assessments, safety team development, and de-escalation for front-desk and greeting roles. It is designed not to frighten your people — fear is a poor instructor and it outlasts the session.

Do you teach firearms? Do you issue a License to Carry?

We teach defensive firearms from complete beginner through experienced carrier, at partner ranges. ONE44 is not a licensing body — if you need a Texas LTC certificate, we will refer you to a good LTC instructor. What we teach is the training that should occur before and after that class.

Do I have to be a Christian to train with you?

No, and it will never be a condition of anything. Faith is central to why ONE44 exists and we are not going to conceal it on our own website, but we have instructed people of every faith and of none, and they all received the same instruction and the same respect. If you need help, that is the only qualification that has ever mattered.

What does it cost?

It depends on the format, the group size, and the location, so we would rather quote you accurately than post a number that turns out to be wrong for your situation. Make contact and we will give you a straight answer with no obligation attached.

Still have a question?

Ask it directly. Every message is answered personally, and no obligation is attached to any of it.
